In Myung-jin

In Myung-jin (印名鎭, 1 June 1946 (1946-06-01) ~ ) is a retired pastor of the Galilee Church, belonging to the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap), a Presbyterian denomination in South Korea, and an endowed chair professor at Soongsil University. His family seat is Gyodong (喬桐).

He served as a pastor at the Galilee Church and took the position that religious persons should be subject to taxation by law.¹² He has served as a director of KBS, ethics committee chairman of the Grand National Party, chairman of the Smart Education Foundation, and emergency committee chairman of the Liberty Korea Party.³⁴

Life

He was born in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province. He is from the Tonghap denomination and was active in the Urban Industrial Mission based on liberation theology. From 1972, he served for 12 years as general secretary of the mission. This mission was the stage of activities for opposition activists such as Son Hak-kyu, Kim Moon-soo, and Oh Jong-se. He was imprisoned four times for reasons including labor and democratization movements (YH incident, etc.), and has a record of being deported from the country once.

Before the 1987 presidential election, he took part in the unification process between and , and at that time he held the position that unification around candidate Kim Young-sam was necessary. (Candidate unification theory) People who took the same position as In Myung-jin at that time included opposition activist and lawyer . In a 2011 interview, In Myung-jin mentioned the situation of that time, saying, "YS would go first and then DJ made a package. The person who goes later would take 70% of the shares and control the party. In that way, they made a ten-year ruling plan for the democratization forces."
