**The Battle of Pyongyang** was a war in 371 in which [[Baekje]] attacked the [[Pyongyang Fortress]] of [[Goguryeo]] and killed [[King Gogugwon]] in battle.

## Background

King [[Chaekgye of Baekje|Chaekgye]] of [[Baekje]] took a princess of the [[Daifang Commandery]] as his queen. Around this time, when [[Goguryeo]] attacked the [[Daifang Commandery]], [[Baekje]] came to the aid of the [[Daifang Commandery]], and [[Goguryeo]] came to hold a grudge against [[Baekje]]. [[Goguryeo]] attacked [[Baekje]] twice, but [[Baekje]] withstood the attacks and went on to attack the [[Pyongyang Fortress]] of [[Goguryeo]]. An army of 30,000 under [[King Geunchogo]] attacked the [[Pyongyang Fortress]], and in this battle [[King Gogugwon]] was killed and [[Baekje]] won the victory.
